CCL Façades delivered a technically sophisticated façade for the Base Building, a flexible workspace for technology and engineering tenants.

The redevelopment of Base formed the second phase of Bruntwood SciTech’s masterplan to expand Manchester Science Park to 1 million sqft. With the completion of Base, the campus has grown from 210,000 sqft to 424,000 sq t, creating a diverse range of high-quality office and laboratory spaces designed to support science and technology businesses of all sizes.

Architectural Excellence

This project saw us work alongside Caddick Construction on the design, supply and install of external facade - consisting of a brick slip system supported by composite cladding and a bespoke entrance which was formed of specialist material.

A bespoke blend of three light grey bricks was selected for the cladding, used both externally and internally to create architectural interest. The design provides a subtle contrast with the brass-toned cladding and window frames that feature across the facade.

Raw materials saving

Sustainability was a key consideration in the design of the Base building, with several measures incorporated to ensure the communal areas operate at net zero. The project achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and an EPC ‘A’ rating, reflecting the design team’s thoughtful approach and commitment to delivering a more sustainable building.

The use of Corium brick cladding on the façade played a key role in improving the sustainability of both the construction process and the completed building - the brick tiles use on average 75% less material than traditional facing bricks, delivering significant raw material savings.
