A complete cladding and glazing package for 4 Wellington Place
CCL Facades delivered a complete cladding and glazing package for 4 Wellington Place, supporting the architectural intent and the building’s long-term performance requirements.
Working on behalf of Wates Construction, the team designed, supplied and installed an integrated façade solution combining high-performance glazing, lightweight stone, glass cladding and aluminium rainscreen systems.
Delivered in 39 weeks, the façade at 4 Wellington Place plays a key role in the building’s energy efficiency, durability and striking aesthetic. At the heart of the façade is 7,920 sq m of high-performance glazing and curtain walling, designed to provide thermal efficiency and weather resistance while achieving the architect’s distinctive visual identity.
The elevations utilise the ALUPROF MB-SR60N mullion and transom façade system, creating a continuous perimeter wrap that delivers structural reliability and a sleek finish. The curtain wall system incorporates 3,700 sq m of solar control double-glazed units to the vision areas, helping regulate solar gain and improve internal comfort.
To complement the glazing, 1,253 sq m of digitally printed look-alike panels and 2,967 sq m of Speedpanel were installed to the rear of the stone-clad areas, maintaining visual continuity across the façade.

Specialist door systems were also integrated. The MB-86 Fold Line folding-door system and the MB-77HS lift-and-slide door system provide excellent thermal isolation and energy performance. The MB-77HS system has also passed rigorous weatherproof testing for curtain wall systems in tall buildings by the UK’s Centre for Window Cladding and Technology, ensuring long-term reliability in exposed conditions.
A defining architectural feature of 4 Wellington Place is the combination of lightweight stone and glass cladding across key elevations.
CCL Facades installed 1,938 sq m of Alsecco Gascoigne Blue Airtec lightweight stone, supported by a specialist framework that allows the cladding to be carried by the curtain wall grid behind. This approach reduces structural load while maintaining the premium appearance of natural stone.
Complementing the stone façade, a further 1,938 sq m of Alsecco Airtec Glass cladding was installed. Finished in RAL 7035, the ESG-H heat-soak-tested safety glass panels feature a precise 20mm recessed edge detail, creating a clean and contemporary façade finish while ensuring long-term durability and safety.

To complete the façade package, 1,189 sq m of aluminium rainscreen cladding was installed using 3mm polyester powder-coated aluminium cassette panels. The panels were discreetly fixed to a secondary sub-frame connected back to the curtain wall structure, creating a robust and high-performance building envelope.
The rainscreen system was delivered with fully integrated flashings, base drips, corner details and door framing, ensuring a clean architectural finish and effective weather protection.
The 4 Wellington Place façade demonstrates CCL Facades’ expertise in combining complex materials and systems into a cohesive, high-performance building envelope that meets both aesthetic ambitions and demanding performance standards.
