Landmark Design Centre Supporting Birmingham Regeneration
CCL Facades supported the delivery of EH Smith’s new Design Centre in Digbeth, Birmingham, a flagship project transforming a historic industrial building into a modern hub for the construction and design community.
Creating a striking external appearance
The facility has been developed as a collaborative space for architects, contractors and developers, showcasing a wide range of facade and building materials while supporting innovation, education and industry engagement.
Working as part of the wider project team, CCL Facades was appointed to deliver specialist cladding elements, contributing to the building’s striking external appearance and overall facade performance.
Retaining heritage with design
The facade package included the installation of approximately 375 sq m of terracotta cladding, forming a key architectural feature of the refurbished building. The system was installed with associated support bracketry and carefully coordinated to align with the design intent, which reimagines the building’s exterior while respecting its industrial heritage.
Additional facade elements included the installation of 63 linear metres of copings, 126 linear metres of cills, and 13 linear metres of window and door surrounds, all integrated to ensure a cohesive and high-quality finish across the facade.
These elements were installed using free-issue materials, requiring careful handling, coordination and precision to achieve consistency across the building envelope.
High-Quality Project Delivery
The facade works were delivered over an 8-week installation programme, requiring efficient sequencing and close coordination with the wider construction team.
Through careful planning and attention to detail, CCL Facades successfully delivered a high-quality facade package that enhances the building’s visual identity while supporting long-term durability and performance. The completed project contributes to the wider transformation of Digbeth as a centre for design, creativity and construction innovation, demonstrating CCL Facades’ capability in delivering specialist cladding solutions on refurbishment and regeneration schemes.
