Specialist facade contractor, CCL Facades, has been appointed by family-owned builders merchant, EH Smith, to deliver a package of facade and cladding works at the business’ new Design Warehouse in Digbeth.
Work will include the installation of EH Smith’s own terracotta cladding to transform a derelict toolmaking workshop adjacent to Howells architect practice at Bradford Street. CCL Facades is scheduled to commence work on site in March.
Replicating the success of EH Smith’s London Design Centre, the new development in Birmingham has been designed by Howells and will provide a design showroom with 1,000 brick types on display. This includes ceramic and terracotta rainscreen and masonry support systems, natural stone cladding, and landscaping materials.
Forming part of the wider regeneration of Digbeth, the project is hailed to be a new hub for the construction industry with education and demonstration areas to promote modern methods of construction, sustainability, fire safety and water conservation.
The contract adds to CCL Facades’ work in the Midlands, which also includes the facade at the first phase of Places for People and Urban Splash’s Port Loop residential scheme on behalf of sister company, Caddick Construction.
Tony Blake, Managing Director of CCL Facades, commented:
“EH Smith are a long-standing member of our supply chain, and as a customer we know the exceptionally high standards they offer in both their product range and customer service. To be on the other side of the table and contribute to the creation of their cutting edge new showroom in Digbeth makes this a very special project for myself and the team.” Tony Blake, Managing Director of CCL Facades
